The Earliest Volume of Staten Island Records, 1678-1813
Below is a list of links to the pages found in the work, The Earliest Volume of Staten Island Records, 1678-1813. This volume, part of the Historical Records Survey published in 1942, contains a transcription of a small handwritten book found in the office of the County Clerk, St. George, Staten Island. This original record book was first transcribed in Stillwell's Historical and Genealogical Miscellany, but here many errors contained in that transcription have been corrected. The original book is considered to be the earliest book kept exclusively for Staten Island recordings and contains records of the Justices' Court, recording of cattle marks, roads, and levies, as well as the recording of a few early deeds. This volume is fully indexed and has an excellent Forward which explains the contents of this book, and both should be consulted when viewing this work.
